UPDATE ON SCHOOL RESUMPTION: ADDITIONAL HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENTS

UPDATE ON SCHOOL RESUMPTION:
ADDITIONAL HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENTS

Dear Parents / Guardians,

In our last correspondence, School was scheduled to resume on Monday, 27th April, 2020 or at a date set by the educational authorities.

However, on Sunday, 26th April, 2020, the Government of Niger State directed that statewide lock-down measures would continue. More specifically, all schools in the State are to remain closed indefinitely.

We have reviewed the prevailing situation and what is now obvious is that there are no definite timelines for resumption of schools.

At the moment, there are also no specific expectations from government around what schools should be doing on the education front, but government appears very clear on the imperative to safeguard public health.

At present, there is no standard for home learning or online learning by reference to which we would be guided or able to be judged as schools. All the options we have reviewed; whether interactive or non interactive, virtual or non virtual, would however require, and request the active participation of parents /guardians.

In view of the foregoing, we have explored possible options that might allow for some sort of academic activity to keep the pupils / students busy and engaged.

In the interim, the school has approved as follows:

(i) Online transmission of additional holiday assignments to cover the period from Monday, 3rd May, 2020 to 25th May, 2020.

(ii) These exercises would be subject to assessment & would be submitted alongside the initial holiday assignments.

(iii) Use of school website, email or other electronic means to transmit class exercises for all subjects offered in a class to parents.

The above exchange of exercises will be non-interactive. However, school lines would always remain open to attend to enquiries. Class Managers shall also be available upon request by individual parents.

In the event that school closure remains in effect beyond May, 25th 2020, more appropriate steps would then become necessary.

We strongly advise parents that all measures approved and directed by health authorities in relation to this pandemic be seriously adhered to.

Stay Safe, Ramadan Mubarak and God Bless.

Signed:

Management
